Located in Rua Visconde Anadia, Patrício & Gouveia has been the largest manufacturer and exporter of magnificent embroideries and tapestries in Madeira since 1925. The historic building, designed and built specifically for the embroidery industry, marks the glorious era of this significant industry in Madeira's economic development. Both factory and shop work in this large building, assuming a prominent role in tourism and Madeiran traditions.
A visit to the factory is fascinating because you learn about this artisanal art, watching the different stages of production, from the idea to the design, from the choice of fabrics to the final product. Annually, an estimated 120,000 tourists and schoolchildren on the island visit Patrício & Gouveia. In addition to selling locally, the tradition of exporting famous embroideries, with exclusive designs, to different countries is still a reality. At the end of the visit, you will find a shop with unique items that are authentic pieces of art. The problem is to find one that you do not like!
Open from Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 18:00. On Saturday until noon.
