Located in Rua Dr Fernão Ornelas, Bordal is a shop and a living museum of typical Madeira embroidery, an artisanal product whose recipe maintains a tradition of about 150 years. Founded in 1962, it is currently one of the leading manufacturers and exporters of Madeira embroidery.
The company has an archive of 40,000 drawings using the best linen and cotton. The challenge has been in adapting the art pieces to the new times and making timeless pieces to pass from generation to generation.
Each piece has a unique and genuine story told by the designer's inspiration and the meticulous, perfectionist work of the embroiderers' agile and patient hands. The specialised segments are the bed, bath, table and baby lines.
In 2013, the Historical Route of Madeira Embroidery was created, which invites you to discover the manufacture of Madeira embroidery from its origins to the present, observing the various stages of embroidery live and side by side with its history.
