Cristo Rei do Garajau

The Cristo Rei viewpoint is located in Ponta do Garajau, in Santa Cruz, and is a trendy place for all nature lovers and those who go through the archipelago of Madeira.

You can find a breathtaking panoramic view over Funchal, the Desertas islands, the Reis Magos beach and Galo beach (both located in Santa Cruz). What makes this place one of the most visited is undoubtedly the imposing statue of Cristo Rei, which is on top of a hill and facing the sea. The reason this statue is facing the Atlantic waters is due to the simple fact that, at the time of its construction in 1927, the connections with the outside world were still made by sea.
