Teleférico de Garajau

At Ponta do Garajau, in the parish of Caniço, 12 km from Funchal, you will find the Garajau Cable Car. If you hear about the Cristo Rei cable car, know that it is the same transport, as it is close to the statue of Cristo Rei, which is 14 m high. It opened in 2007, and this modern cable car has a large parking lot.

The descent to the beach is on the 200 m line, with fantastic views of the volcanic rocks and cliffs with admirable characteristics and colours. At the end of the trip, you will discover a stone-rolled beach with a lifeguard and infrastructures to welcome the visitor.

Have the opportunity to see the sunset on the beach, and you will not miss a breath-taking view. You might watch some garajaus (sea birds). The place also allows you to access the Garajau Natural Reserve and the Diving School.

Opening hours: every day in summer, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
