Located in the south of Madeira, the Câmara de Lobos municipality is one of the oldest places in Madeira and one of the first to be explored. In addition to being a land of good fish, it is also a place of strong emotions and magnificent landscapes and one of the most beautiful places in Madeira. The parish name is because of“sea lions”, as navigators saw them at the time of its discovery.
The steep topography makes it a land of viewpoints, namely Cabo Girão, one of the highest cliffs (580m). Then venture to the Skywalk. Pico da Torre has an almost vertical view of the city and its cove.
The historical centre is small but invites you to take a walk in the Bay, where you can photograph the colourful boats of the fish people, as well as a meal of swordfish and a poncha in the local restaurants. In terms of religious buildings, visit the Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião and Capela de Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
To the east, head to Praia Formosa, a perfect place to roam and take a walk. The natural Volcanic Lido of Doca de Cavacas is close and a paradise for swimmers.
